Privacy policy
Last updated 3 November 2026
Near & Dear is a private space for the notes, plans and to-dos you share with a few people. It’s run by Caspar Curtis, who you can reach at casparcurtis@outlook.com. We keep only what the app needs in order to work. There are no ads, no analytics and no tracking.
What we keep
- Your account: your name, your email address and how you sign in. If you use Apple or Google, we get what you agree to share with us. If you use a password, it’s stored as a secure hash, so we can’t read it.
- What you write: your notes, replies, plans, to-dos, lists and categories, and the groups you’re in.
- Your settings: your theme, which group opens first, and whether notifications are on.
- A notification address: only if you turn on “New note for you”, so that we can reach your phone.
We use all of this to give you the app you’ve asked for, and for nothing else. Under UK and EU data protection law, that’s the basis for keeping it.
Who can see it
Everything in a group can be seen and changed by the people in that group, and nobody else. Your Personal space is only for you. We don’t sell your information or share it for advertising.
These services help run the app:
- Supabase stores your data, on servers in London.
- Apple and Google handle sign-in, if you choose them.
- Expo and Apple deliver notifications, if you turn them on. A notification only says who a note is from. The words of your note are never sent.
- Resend sends account emails, such as a link to reset your password.
- Vercel hosts this website, and keeps short-lived logs of visits to it.
Some of these companies are based outside the UK, including in the US.
How long we keep it
We keep your information until you delete it or your account. Daily backups are kept for 7 days, so anything deleted leaves those backups within a week.
Deleting your account
You can delete your account at any time in the app, under Me. Your account, your Personal space and any group with only you in it are removed. Notes, plans and to-dos you added to groups you share stay for the others in that group, shown as from someone who left, because they’re part of a shared record.
Your rights
You can ask for a copy of your information, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it, by writing to casparcurtis@outlook.com. If you’re unhappy with how we’ve handled it, you can complain to your data protection authority. In the UK, that’s the Information Commissioner’s Office.
Children
Near & Dear isn’t meant for children under 13, and we don’t knowingly hold their information.
Changes
If this policy changes, we’ll update this page and the date above.
